Sneakers for Spring

As winter gives way to spring, the boots suited for slush give way to sneakers for the warm months.
In their usual seasonal tradition, Converse has unveiled their spring collection. Full of neons, lively prints and prom themed sneakers, the spring collection puts away the muted tones of fall and winter and make for good sales to boot.
"The spring always brings in new customers, people who are looking for something light, breezy and colourful," said Elaine Martin, owner of Groovy, a shoe store on Queen St. West that specializes in Converse shoes. "We always see a spike in sales in March and April from people after the newest look, while retaining the classic style of the Chuck Taylor."
Taylor said that the neons in this years collection were the big seller so far, an opinion that Duncan Grewer, a manager at nearby Get Outside Shoes echoed.
"Yeah, the neons are really flying off the shelves," said Grewer, "especially the greens and pinks. We're getting all sorts of people coming in here, especially the teenagers who have seen their friends rocking the new styles. They want something fresh, but familiar."
Emily Goode, a 20-year-old Ryerson student, has had her eyes on a new pair of chucks for the fall.
"I've always liked the classic sneaker look, but I like something distinctive as well. those neon yellow chucks look really good," said Goode. "It's something for the summer; relaxed, cool and different."
